People are sometimes surprised that the Russians still use telegrams.
There is an old tradition of sending telegrams on birthdays and special occasions,
anniversaries etc. Telegrams are also useful for communicating with remote
areas with no landline or mobile coverage. A telegram can be used, for example, to
ask someone to go to the nearest post office or telegraph station at a particular time
to receive a phone call.

Below is an example of such a telegram, sent to a village near Voronezh in 2007.
